Adult Education

CIELO offers classes for adults in asafe, fun and friendly environment. All classes are free and bilingual tutors are available.

E.L.L: English Classes
Wednesday and Thursday 6:30 -8:00 p.m.

New students come at 6:00 register and take a test to determine the appropriate level.

Learning English is a critical first step in being able to communicate at work, during visits with your child’s teacher, at school, and during day-to-day encounters with other people. CIELO offers classes for all levels: beginning, intermediate, and advanced.

Adult Basic Education in Spanish: Elementary to High School
Monday or Tuesday 6:30 -8:00 p.m.

If you never completed basic education in a Spanish-speaking country, the Community Plaza program allows you to earn a diploma from the Secretary of Public Education in Mexico. Working at your own pace online,you will study subjects at the elementary and high school levels in Spanish.

GED: Preparation for the GED Exam
Monday or Tuesday 6:30 -8:00 p.m.

The State of Washington issues a General Education Development certificate to students who successfully pass exams, in Spanish or English, in four areas: reading/writing, social studies, science, and math. The GED certificate provides accreditation to students who have not finished high school, so that they can continue their studies at a college or a university. In the GED program, you’ll be paired with volunteer tutors who have expertise in the four different knowledge areas and will provide support throughout the process.

Sewing Classes
Monday and Tuesday 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Learn sewing skills and practice your English in a relaxed setting. We also train students on how to run a small business and develop customer service skills. For mothers with young children or anyone looking for a job with flexibility, these classes prepare you to build a home-based business or pursue employment beyond the home.

Certified Computer Classes
Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Friday 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Earn your Microsoft certification in Word, Excel or PowerPoint, taught in both English and Spanish. We cover topics like accessing the internet, using email, word processing basics, and social networking. You’ll learn to create resumes and apply for jobs online, keep in touch with family and friends back home, and enhance important job skills.
